This game is average at best. Bart fans would be able to like it, but I for one, couldn't get into it. Yowza, this is a toughie. While I always welcome a challenging game, this one can be frustrating.

Nintendo may be trying to market the GameBoy as the ultimate yuppie toy, but games like this are way too challenging for kids. This game also suffers from slow responsiveness, average graphics and buzzy sounds. If you must own every Bart game in existence, you may have fun with it, but don't expect greatness.

Let's see. I uh, don't like it. Honestly, I don't even think Bart Simpson fans are going to like it. The obvious flaw is the game play, which is, well, simply put, bad. The thing is you're provided with a slingshot weapon which seems to be launching styrofoam balls at enemies because they seem to miss a lot, and when they do, they don't seem to do much damage.

This offers gamers nothing but frustration. This game suffers from poor programming. For example, when Bart needs to use his slingshot, it takes forever to fire the darn thing! To make matters worse, its range is horrible. This is just one example of what makes this game a questionable buy.

The graphics are decent, for the GameBoy, and the difficulty level is high partially because of the poor game play. There are no continues! Not a wise investment. Talk about trouble! Our hero, Bart Simpson, was leisurely walking down a street in Springfield when he overheard some strange voices. Looking over a fence, Bart put on his trusty Xray glasses and saw aliens planning to take over the Earth! Without his glasses, they looked like normal human beings.

It's up to you to guide Bart in his quest to stop the invading aliens from building their ultimate doomsday weapon! No way, man! Stand in front of the movie theater when the timer reaches either or and a purple Boy Scout will appear! Bart vs. On each of the five levels, Bart must collect or get rid of the ingredients that the Space Mutants are planning to use to build their machine, such as purple objects or balloons.

He also has to collect enough "proof" of the aliens existence brown coins left behind when they are jumped on , so his family members will help him when he meets a boss characters such as Nelson and Sideshow Bob.

This ain't be easy, since the Space Mutants are "using" human bodies as disguise. Though the space mutants look like humans, Bart is able to see them with the help of a pair of X-ray glasses.

The space mutants, naturally, plan to invade the earth. To do that, the aliens need different items for their "miraculous machine". The object of the game is for you, Bart, to either spray these objects with your trusty can of red spray paint, or to collect them before the aliens can grab them.

These items differ from level to level i. Level one, purple objects, Level 3 Blue balloons. While you are collecting or destroying the objects, you have to be on the lookout for aliens disguised as townspeople. This is where the fun comes in: if you see an alien, you have to bop him on the head and the alien will fly away to space leaving behind a letter.

You can collect as many letters as you can to spell the names of the rest of the family. If you succeed, that member will help you defeat the "boss" enemy at the end of each level, who are very difficult to defeat on your own. Overall, Bart vs.

The sub-levels range in difficulty, but beating them all without dying in the Windy World is a tall order for a short kid. At its best, Bart's Nightmare is an outstanding tribute to Simpsons creator Matt Groening, and the music and sounds are snappy. However, the game is too schizophrenic and repetitive for its own good.
